Wind energy machine demo

Madhyapur Thimi, February 21:

A three-day exhibition of a windmill that generates 750 watts of electricity concluded here today.

Durdam Thapa, a technician of Katunje VDC of Bhaktapur, invented the machine a year ago and tested it in Fakelpa of Makwanpur district. After he was successful in the piloting stage in cooperation with an NGO, he put the machine on display at Sallaghari grounds of Bhaktapur on Wednesday.

He put the three-fan machine on a chair in Sallaghari, generated electricity and showed it to the general public. He also told them that it was for sale.

He has got many orders from organisations here and abroad after the news of his successful project came out. He has been selling such machines since the last one year. The electricity generated from it can be sufficient for lighting up four houses and playing radios.

Five such machines were sold and each can be prepared at a cost ranging between Rs 70,000 to Rs 90,000, he said. Thapa added that if such machines were installed in rural areas and the hills of Nepal, the energy crisis would ease.

The government has in this year’s budget planned to generate 74 MW of power from wind but till date there has been no progress in this regard. The country is reeling under 16-hour of load-shedding in a day.
