KATHMANDU, JUNE 5

Health authorities today diagnosed 4,624 new cases of coronavirus infection in the country, including 1,384 in Kathmandu valley. With this, Nepal's COVID caseload has reached 581,560, including 476,130 recoveries, 97,699 active cases, and 7,731 deaths.

It is for the first time since May 11 that the number of active COVID cases has dropped below one lakh in Nepal.

The number of active cases was 97,008 on May 11, rising up to 117,261 on May 25. Since then the number has been declining.

Of those testing positive for the contagion in the valley today, 897 are from Kathmandu, 299 from Lalitpur, and 188 from Bhaktapur.

Of the others diagnosed with the disease today, 311 are from Morang, 282 from Kaski, 191 from Sunsari, 169 from Jhapa, 144 from Okhaldhunga, 139 from Sindhupalchowk, 133 from Dhanusha, 120 from Kavrepalanchowk, 92 each from Chitwan and Makawanpur, 86 from Surkhet, 85 from Rupandehi, 81 from Bara, 70 from Gorkha, 68 from Bardiya, 65 each from Dhading, Syangja, and Banke, 61 from Nuwakot, 58 from Siraha, 57 from Nawalparasi (East), 51 each from Dang and Kailali, 50 from Tanahun, 48 from Ramechhap, 47 from Achham, 43 from Saptari, 41 from Kapilvastu, 38 from Kanchanpur, 36 from Myagdi, 35 from Sarlahi, 33 from Sindhuli, 32 from Doti, 28 from Dadeldhura, 27 from Rautahat, 25 from Udayapur, 22 from Dailekh, 20 from Nawalparasi (West), 19 from Parsa, 18 from Palpa, 17 from Rukum (West), 15 each from Mahottari and Arghakhanchi, 12 from Dolakha, nine from Pyuthan, seven from Rolpa, six each from Parbat, Lamjung, and Salyan, five each from Solukhumbu, Baglung, and Jumla, four each from Dhankuta, Bhojpur, and Baitadi, three each from Ilam, Sankhuwasabha, and Kalikot, two each from Khotang, Jajarkot, and Mugu, and one each from Panchthar, Rasuwa, Gulmi, Rukum (East), Humla, Bajhang, and Bajura.

As many as 2,029 persons tested positive for antigens today.

As many as 47 districts - Morang, Jhapa, Sunsari, Okhaldhunga, Bara, Rautahat, Saptari, Dhanusha, Parsa, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kavrepalanchowk, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Kaski, Nawalparasi (East), Gorkha, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat, Lamjung, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Gulmi, Nawalparasi (West), Surkhet, Dailekh, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Baitadi, Kanchanpur, Achham, and Doti - have more than 500 active COVID cases each.

The number of active COVID cases in Kathmandu valley is 23,624 - 13,967 in Kathmandu, 5,609 in Lalitpur, and 4,048 in Bhaktapur.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 1,422 COVID patients are in intensive care - 212 in Province 1, 112 in Province 2, 716 in Bagmati, 144 in Gandaki, 158 in Lumbini, 48 in Karnali, and 32 in Sudurpaschim. As many as 404 of them are on ventilator support - 52 in Province 1, 27 in Province 2, 252 in Bagmati, 33 in Gandaki, 24 in Lumbini, five in Karnali, and 11 in Sudurpaschim.

The ministry added that 8,663 people were discharged from health centres across the country in the past 24 hours after recovering from COVID.

So far, 81.9 per cent of COVID patients have recovered in Nepal.

It said that 101 COVID patients have died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the respiratory contagion in the country to 7,731 at a case fatality rate of 1.6 per cent.
