Aarohan Theatre Festival 2007 kicks off

With the advent of the New Year Gurukul is all set to welcome audiences to the Aarohan National Theatre Festival 2007. An occasion, which will be heralding the coming together of theatre groups from all over the country. The plays are mainly based on contemporary issues like the effects of conflict, social and political issues.

The program was inaugurated at a function held on April 15 at the premises of Gurukul with traditional instruments indicating that the function had formally begun.

The chief guest for the show was Chitra Lekha Yadav, Deputy Speaker and Satya Mohan Joshi was the Chairman.

Other important personalities to grace the dais were Bhoj Raj Ghimire, Chief Secretary, Government of Nepal, Kikkan Haugen, Counsellor and Deputy of Mission, Norwegian Embassy, Prof Abhi Subedi, Prof Durga Prasad Bhandari and Bairagi Kainla.

Basanta Chaudhary, President of Lunkarandas-Gangadevi Chaudhary Sahitya Kala Mandir welcomed the guests which was followed by inspiring speeches about Gurukul and the festival by the invited guests. To mark this special occasion and the Ibsen International Theater Festival the CD Sukarma with Ibsen was also launched.

Aarohan’s widely popular play Mayadeviko Sapana was shown today to an enthusiastic crowd. Many other equally entertaining and motivating plays will be staged at Gurukul. A total of 27 groups will be performing their plays from April 15 to May 11. Every play will be shown twice, at 12 noon and again at 5.30 in the evening.
