Adding colours to life
Kathmandu:
Imagine a life without boundaries, imagine a childhood without fear, imagine the moments you steal from your hectic life to fulfil your dreams, imagine the warmth you feel with accomplishments and the contentment you get from small changes you bring in your life and others as well, imagine the rainbow in your life. A rainbow made of hope, dreams and desire made its way to Kathmandu from Switzerland with artist and visual designer, Thomas Bertschi. He along with artiste Salil Kanika, Earthbeat initiated the project Imagine Rainbow in Kathmandu (IRIK). They filmed around 100 children on their journey with well-known musicians who helped them to play with colours and music to create something as beautiful as IRIK, and some fond memories to cherish lifelong. Though the film was screened for the first time on November 3, 2006 it has been edited from its original 98 minutes to 60 minutes and is out in the market. The first official screening of the edited version was held at Hotel Vajra on December 6.
IRIK has come out with the edited documentary DVD and the music CD. The documentary DVD and CD consist of the colourful and musical journey of the children and the musicians. The children of CWIN, Gorakhnath School, Ganjala Children Home, Mitrata Nepal and Namgyal School learnt to play various instruments from musicians like Navraj Gurung, Shanti Rayamajhi, the band Trikaal, Shyam Nepali, Salil Kanika and rock band Mukut and chants taught by monks of Ballanye Monastery, Boudha for almost a year. The documentary was shot for almost five months and the final concert with the children was held at the Patan Museum on March 2006.
