animal stories

Persian cats are heavily boned, well-balanced cats with a sweet expression. They are very popular breeds of domesticated cats that have long, flowing hair. They have a medium to large, square body type, often referred to as “cobby”. Their head is round and broad and the ears are short. The face is quite flat and rounded. The eyes are large with brilliant colour and are set well apart. The legs are short and strong with large round paws. The tail is short and bushy. Their coat is long and thick, standing off from body. The coat is fine textured, glossy and comes in many colours.

Persians are relatively quiet house cats that are calm and affectionate. They have sweet personality and are gentle and playful. The white Persians are known for being somewhat vain and taking care of their appearance, whilst the blue-creams are generally considered more outgoing than many. They generally do not mind living on their own and are quite content to be an only cat. They are ideal for indoors, as they are quite comfortable to sit and look pretty.

Coat colour

Persians come in colour like solid, silver and golden, shaded and smoke, tabby, parti-colour, bi-colour.

Temperament

Persian cats are very obedient and make good pets for those that do not mind grooming their cat daily. Persians are devoted to their owners, but one must earn their trust and love. They crave affection and love to be petted and fussed over, but won’t bother their owner for attention the way some breeds will. They will, however, let their feelings be known if they are not getting the required amount of attention.

Lifespan

They live for about 9-15 years.

Pet grooming

These breeds require daily grooming to keep their long flowing coat free from mats and knots. The use of talcum powder helps in removing tangles and the coat must

be combed and brushed every day. Persian’s eyes do tend to run and the corner of the eye and side of the nose will need regular cleaning. The bottom area and underside of the tail should be taken care regularly to avoid staining.
