Art in negatives

Kathmandu:

With the world going digital, negatives of photographs have become outdated. However, Kishor Nakarmi, holding his first exhibition and the first of its kind in Nepal, has made use of the used film rolls to create works of art.

Nakarmi says that he was inspired by the works of art he saw where paper and straw had been used. He thought why not use used film negatives to create something new and unique.

This has given us the ‘Film Roll Negative Craft Exhibition’ in which 30 pieces of Nakarmi’s work have been displayed.

We can see that his work is heavily influenced by culture and tradition. Why is this so? And Nakarmi’s answer is: “Art is a method of saving our culture and tradition.”

About his love for art and interest, Nakarmi says he was interested in it “right from his childhood”.

Contemporary Nepali artist Sushma Rajbhandari said the real identification of an artist lie in his/her work than on their age or name, and Kishor had proved this to be true. (The exhibition is on till October 4 at Gallery Nine, Lazimpat)
