Artwork with a difference
POKHARA: Local artists have got together with those from the capital and abroad to create unconventional artwork at the International Himalayan Museum here.
Six artists from Kathmandu, 10 from Pokhara and one foreign artist have been involved in a five-day art workshop. They are using locally available materials like stone, paper, leaves, hay, bamboo, polythene, threads, wood to create their works of art, and are confident of giving their viewers a rather new experience.
The works will be displayed on January 21.
The workshop, organised by Sutra Art of Kathmandu, aims to help artists experiment and gain new experiences, chairman of Creative Artists Group (CAG), Pokhara, Chettra Lal Kayastha said.
Senior artist Durga Baral (Batsayan) said, “Artwork created using different stuff will only enhance an artist’s creativity.”
Foreign artist Peter will create a symbolic rock using wood from the Fewa Lake, secretary of Sutra Art, Saroj Bajracharya said. Peter is also scheduled to impart training to other artists. The workshop includes audiovisual training, artwork creation and interaction programme.
DP Upadhyay, who is using hay for his creation, said he is trying to illustrate artwork that those trying to prevent others from progress will not prevail. Pokhareli artist Gopal Shrestha is doing a painting of oxygen and saline water being given to the tree depicting environmental degradation.
