KATHMANDU, APRIL 7

A wildfire has spread across 5,420 hectares of forest in Chitwan District. The fire is affecting areas under the Division Forest Office, Chitwan National Park, and the Buffer Zone.

According to Devi Prasad Poudel, Information Officer at the Division Forest Office, approximately 4,220 hectares of forest, out of the 57,000 hectares managed by the office, have been engulfed by the fire.

The wildfire is also posing a threat to wildlife, Poudel added. Abinash Thapa Magar, Information Officer at Chitwan National Park, reported that the fire has affected more than 1,200 hectares within the park and its buffer zone.

A joint team from the Nepali Army and Chitwan National Park has been deployed to extinguish the fire immediately after receiving the alarm about the wildfire.
