Big B out of hospital

MUMBAI: Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan waved to his fans as he walked out of a Mumbai hospital on October 17 after being treated for abdominal pain, a hospital official said.

Bachchan was escorted by his son, Abhishek Bachchan, and daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, said P Rajan, an administrative officer at Lilavati Hospital.

Rajan declined to discuss Bachchan’s health, citing the patient’s right to privacy.

Bachchan was brought to the hospital on a stretcher on his 66th birthday last Saturday after he complained of acute abdominal pain.

“I’m better,” Bachchan told Mumbai’s Mid-day newspaper on Thursday from his hospital bed.

Asked if his pain was gone, he said, “Life can never be completely painless. But I’m going home.”

Bachchan and his wife Jaya, a politician and veteran actress, are among Bollywood’s best-known families. Affectionately called the ‘Big B’, Bachchan has acted in more than 160 movies.

He underwent surgery for an intestinal ailment two years ago.
