Blending music and pictures

Kathmandu:

It was a special evening on January 6 at the Bakery Café, Sundhara, auditorium. Photo Circle, a platform for photographers to share their works, celebrated its first birthday. The programme boasted of a special live music performance with the monthly photo slideshow programme and the launch of its website www.photocircle.com.np.

The auditorium inside the Café saw a good crowd, mostly of youngsters. All together three photographers presented their works along with background music provided by different artistes. The presentation began with Nayantara Gurung Kakshyapati’s ‘Miss Nepal 2008’ — a tribute to Nepali women. From girls working in call centres to village women, each tried to tell a story of struggle and success. Barta Gandarva provided apt background music with her Sarangi tunes.

Ashesh Dangol’s photos in ‘Gatlang Blues’ focused on the life of Gatlang people in Rasuwa, their struggles and challenges. Being a guitarist, Dangol himself gave the background music. For his presentation, Naresh Shrestha had invited Bhaktapur Dattatraya Dhime Baja group to accompany his slideshow entitled ‘Culture Calendar’, which, as the name itself suggests, had culture-centric photos.

“We usually have track music played, this time we wanted to honour the musical artistes as well in our first anniversary,” said Kakshyapati, co-founder of Photo Circle.
