Celebrating colours of new year

KATHMANDU: Buriganga Arts and Crafts’ exhibition ‘Group 5 and Modern Masters’ opened at Gallery Mithila Yain on April 14, on the occasion of New Year, which is celebrated in both the countries.

Ambassador of Bangladesh Imtiaz Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition.

Group 5 are five upcoming talented young artists Kishor Nakarmi, Sabina Dangol, Raj Krishna Maharjan, Suresh Shrestha and Bipana Maharjan. Their work are mostly traditional paintings of god, goddess, masks, landscapes and collage using different mediums such as news paper cuttings, water-colour, acrylic and others.

The Modern Masters, whose work decorated the walls of the gallery, are Nepal’s Sashi Bikram Shah, Malaysia’s Suzlee Ibrahim, Germany’s Dorothea Fleiss and Bangladesh’s Ranjit Das.

Another exhibition, also under the auspices of Buriganga titled ‘Miniature 2007’ is also on at the Light and Shade Gallery, Thamel.

This showcases well-known artist Ratna Kaji Shakya’s miniature paintings. The subject Shakya has tried to cover mainly consists of women. By using different mediums like water colour, acrylic and mixed medium, Shakya has tried to present feminine feelings and expressions in his creations.

Buriganga is a Bangladeshi organisation involved in promoting young artists of the local and international art scenes.

Both exhibitions are on till April 21.
