Cyrus arrives

KATHMANDU:

Being Cyrus snakes into an intriguing psychological drama, but unravels almost like a quaint comedy. The tale revolves around the rather dysfunctional Sethna family and swings between Panchgani (Katy and Dinshaw Sethna’s home) and an old dilapidated building in Mumbai (where Dinshaw’s aged father, Fardoonjee Sethna, his brother, Farokh, and Farokh’s wife, Tina, live in apparent conflict). As Cyrus befriends and enters into the family as Dinshaw’s sculpting apprentice, all the cracks begin to open. The layers unfold and things do not seem quite right. What’s more is that nothing about Cyrus seems quite right either. Being Cyrus has been in the news for the romance between an elder woman (Dimple Kapadia) and a much younger man (Saif Ali Khan).

World of Fantasia

Fantasia broke all the rules that had been established for animated feature films. Without a linear, cohesive plot, its educational overtones almost seem more appropriate for classroom use; the narration by prominent musicians and Disney characters alike create a multigenerational appeal and enhance the entertainment value while showcasing the influence Disney could wield on a ‘concept’ film. Today the animation may appear old-fashioned and quaint but the concept is so fundamentally sound it still works for audiences of all ages. It will be screened on March 24 at 9:00 am at the American Library as part of the American Movie Month.
