Drishyam keeps you glued to seat
KATHMANDU: A suspense-thriller should be able to hold its audience in its grip from the word go till the credits roll out in the end. And Drishyam does just that. With gripping sub-plots and attention to details even in minor incidents, the thrill remains intact till it ends. The suspense, its revelation, cinematography and acting make this movie worth the watch.
A cat-and-mouse chase, something that we watched before, but the events in Drishyam are woven in such a way that it becomes more than an ordinary cat-and-mouse chase. It is a well-written and directed piece highlighting how the misuse of technical gadgets can lead to serious crime.
School dropout Vijay (Ajay Devgn) is a cable operator and is living a happy family life with wife Nandhani (Shriya Saran) and two daughters — Anju (Ishita Dutta) and Anu (Mrinal Jadhav). Vijay, who loves watching movies, is a common but a sharp-tongued man and does not hesitate to raise his voice against ill practices in society. It doesn’t take long time for the audience to realise that something is going to happen in the family. However, the film maintains its tempo as the film unfolds.
The son of Meera (Tabu), IG of Goa, goes missing and she starts an investigation into it. Vijay’s family is suspected. Vijay, who holds a grudge against Lakshmikant Gaitonde (Kamlesh Sawant), a cop, is then tortured and the police do everything to make the family confess to the crime. But is the Vijay’s family involved in it? If yes, how?
Meera’s narration of the events once again does not bore Drishyam’s audience.
Devgn as a common man is aptly portrayed in the way he dresses, while he reflects his love for his family well in his portrayal. Tabu juggles the role of a cop and loving mother, with her brilliant acting skills. Dutta is praiseworthy. She is able to reflect her fear and confidence within a fraction of a second. The audience will fall in love with Jadhav, the little girl, while wishing that this cutie pie will not reveal the mystery. Sawant’s act is so brilliant that one earnestly wishes something bad happens to this character. Rajat Kapoor as Meera’s husband is fantastic in his role. From get-up to dialogue delivery and his love towards the children, he is praiseworthy.
The song Palpalka Marna is well-timed in the movie. The curved roads of Goa and the scenes around are well captured making one feel that the place must be visited at least once in a lifetime.
Drishyam’s suspense will definitely keep you glued to your seats till the end.
