Fashion extravaganza
Kathmandu:
The evening of October 5 was all about glitz and glamour as ‘Harmony —The best of India and Nepal Khadi Show’ was held on the lawns of Hyatt Regency. Organised by South Asia Foundation, the event showcased collections of three celebrated Indian designers and a Nepali designer. The creme de la creme of Kathmandu had come to witness the coming together of the fashion industry of two countries. The presence of both the gorgeous models walking the ramp and the trendy audience made the event a stylish extravaganza.
Satya Paul’s earthy tones:
Satya Paul’s Terra Firma Collection featured georgettes, georgette jacquards and crepe sarees with different shades of earth colours and tones. The elaborate embroidery highlighted with dana work, beads, solstiss lace and French knots and bright colours at the aanchal presented a gorgeous look to the saris. The signature style of Satya Paul like
calligraphy and geometric shapes could be seen in this collection, which had
different colours than that of other collections.
Monapali’s elegant grandeur:
Variety and melange: this defines the collection by Monapali. They presented a variety in colour, style and design. Their collection presented variety of colours from elegant white and khadi colour to bright pink and sensual black. True to their signature style, the collection had the combination of different art forms and fabrics. The fabrics used were created with different woven styles like basket weaving, while the patterns consisted both prints and embroidery. Be it kurthas or skirts, they have given a classy touch by adding different layers. Their collection was a fusion of east and west as their skirts could be worn as a lehenga too, and their kurtas could also be worn as short dresses.
Bohemic Niki:
Titled ‘Collage Unleashed’, Mahajan’s collection was a mixture of colour, style and techniques. Her short and long silk dresses of different styles like A-line or balloon had a luxurious flow to it. The colour scheme of the collection, which was accentuated with stones, was darker palette with jewel tones. Besides silk, the collection had fabrics like matkas,
tussars and velvet. The colourful embroidery done on the block prints on the edges
of the dress and coats made the pieces look vibrant and flamboyant.
Shakun’s simple lines:
The collection of Shakun embodied Nepali style with hemp and pashmina in her designs. Black and khadi colour dominated her collection. Long straight dresses with a woven hemp cover on top presented a simple and graceful style. Her collection also included tops
made of raw silk in bright colours like pink and blue, which was combined with pants and stylish skirts. The whole attire was complemented by matching pashmina with glittering outline.
