Kathmandu:
If you really want to taste coastal delights come all the way from Myanmar, here is your chance at Sunrise Café of Yak & Yeti from Saturday to Tuesday every week. The Burmese Tales will happen four days a week and Sunrise Café will offer a different menu everyday.
Myanmarese food is similar to Chinese, Thai and Indian food. It is a bit richer than Chinese food and less spicy than Thai food. One of the items that the Nepali palate won’t miss on Burmese Tales is rice. “Rice is one item that occupies most of the platter,” said chef Nilesh at Sunrise, “alongwith an array of salads and soups as starters. The use of shrimp paste and fish sauce adds a different tang to the affair and there is seafood and fish in abundance.”
Marinated fish steamed in banana leaf is a must-try for nonvegetarians and many, if not most, Myanmarese dishes comprise noodles. Both rice and wheat noodles are common in Myanmar. “Bean sprouts and bamboo shoots are relished in Myanmar and we will offer pickled bamboo shoot and fried spinach or bamboo shoot and long bean,” said Nilesh. “The effort is in continuance of the trend of giving a new and fresh experience to our guests and food lovers,” concludes the chef.
