KATHMANDU: Owner of Helisul Aviação, South America's largest aviation operator, today arrived in Kathmandu to begin his tour of the Mt. Everest region.

Eloy Biesuz, 71, a multi-millionaire aviation tycoon from Brazil, along with his spouse Valdirene Freitas Biesuz, 51, plan to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first successful Everest ascent by Brazilian climbers.

Helisul Aviação's owner will visit Khumbu region and take a mountain flight on Mt Everest, confirmed Pemba Sherpa, Chairperson at 8K Expeditions.

The trip of the high-end tourists has been handled by Kathmandu-based 8K Expeditions. "They are now staying at Dwarika's Hotel in Kathmandu and will leave for Hotel Everest View on April 28," said Pemba. They would also visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Bouddhanath before departing for the Everest region, he added.

On April 29, the couple will meet Waldemar Niclevicz, the first Brazilian to summit Everest, at the Everest Base Camp and they will take a mountain flight on Everest.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Brazilian first ascent on Mt Everest, a five-member team led by Waldemar Niclevicz already reached the EBC to attempt to climb the world's highest peak this season, according to Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director and Expedition leader at 8K Expeditions. Waldermar is an exceptional climber with several mountain ascents (7x8k) under his belt.

"We are eager to receive our VVIP clients here," Lakpa said over phone from the EBC.

According to Pemba, Everest tour of Eloy Biesuz will be guided by legendary Spanish Alpinist Alex Txikon. "Alex also arrived in Kathmandu today to guide our VVIP clients," he added.

Founded in 1972 by brothers and co-founders Eloy and Celso Biesuz, Helisul is the largest helicopter operator in Brazil with over 100 aircraft (planes and helicopters) and 26 hangars. It operates from Brazil's largest cities including Brasilia, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Last year, Helisul aquired Ecocopter's Chilean and Ecuadorean assets boasting a fleet of 81 aircraft, making it one of the largest helicopter operators in South America.

"Handling VVIP clients in the Everest region will certainly help promote Nepal's tourism in the world market and also support the country's economy," Pemba shared.
