Flute strings
KATHMANDU: To jive up the music scene of the Capital and also give it a more traditional aspect, Manose Singh, the renowned flute player of 1974 AD is back in Nepal and is all set to perform live in concert for the music aficionados of the city.
Singh is just not only a distinguished artiste in Nepal but has won acclaim in various parts of the world. Last year Singh played for the Dalai Lama in Italy, toured with Deva Prema and recorded with John Densmore (drummer from The Doors). Densmore and Singh laid down tracks on music and poetry CD called The Sun Rises In The West. Through all his travels and fame, Singh has never forgotten his roots. He donated money from his solo concert last year to support the Kirateshwor Sangeet Ashram, which nurtured his early career, and that of many other musicians in Nepal. The proceedings from his concert will go to set up a fund for bansuri (flute) players from this very school in the name of his music teacher late Madan Dev Bhatta.
“I have always wanted young people to realise our traditional instruments are cool and can be used to play rock, jazz and anything really,” explained Singh.
Nepasa Sound, Moksh Bar and many others who are involved in organising the concert and supporting Singh have sponsored the scheduled concert.
Don’t miss this concert at Patan Museum on March 4, 6 pm onwards. Tickets Rs 650, available at East Meets West, Thamel and Moksh Bar, Pulchowk.
