Fresh flavour of classics

Kathmandu :

Tastes vary, but the flavour of classics remains forever fresh. And it’s even more

delicious as it blends with the present-day pop. At least that’s what the crowd felt as

they stumbled upon for a binge at Absolute Bar on June 2.

The moment Anil Shahi, the celebrated classical guitarist, ran his magic fingers on his acoustics, the atmosphere rang with the festive fusion of classical and the contemporary, while Binod’s melancholic tunes interspersed in between left the impressions of the sober sincerity of emotions.

As for the crowd present, they would only have loved to immerse into the immense pleasure of music that strikes perfect chords with charred hearts. The music went on till hearts once again leapt up with content.

And this wasn’t all for the music buffs. There was yet another treat that went on simultaneously at the Upstairs Bar with premiere Jazz band Cadenza performing its gigs to an assorted crowd of expatriates and locals alike.

Navin, who helms the band, started off with Jazz and graduated to Afro-funk and Latin, while the crowd showered torrents of applause after each performance. The shows went on till midnight at both locations.

The two performances were part of the Classic Encounters, a series of musical nights featuring jazz, funk, blues by some of the country’s best bands.

The Classic Encounters are organised by Surya Classics and managed by PartyNepal.com.

The final series of Classic

Encounters is scheduled for June 5 at the J-Bar and Latino Quarters, featuring Stupa and Looza respectively.
