German through Nepali eyes

Kathmandu:

The Goethe Zenturm, Kathmandu conducted a poster competition on ‘German Language learning in Nepal’ on January 14. The competition was organised with the objective of providing the students an opportunity to expose their understanding of the German language and exploring how Nepali students identify with it.

Nobert Meyer, Councillor and Deuputy Chef de Mission, German Embassy, Kathmandu inaugurated the exhibition.

As many as 21 posters, were staged by students contesting from different class levels of the GZK, including two institutes from outside, which were judged by a team of three independent juries. The best three posters were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 respectively.

The award winning posters will be chemically and electronically treated and later sent to the Goethe institutes of the region and to Munchen, Germany, the headquarters of the Goethe Institutes worldwide.

The Goethe Zentrum (GZK), located at Thapathali, has been relentlessly imparting German language to a vast majority of Nepalese as well as interested foreign citizens since 1997. The Goethe Zentrum is now affiliated with the Max Mueller Bhawan, New Delhi, which has brought GZK directly under its jurisdiction in order to oversee the ongoing German language activities in Nepal.
