Get ready for Russian film fest

KATHMANDU: To celebrate the year 2007 as ‘The Year of Russian Language’ as declared by the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture is organising a Russian Film Festival from February 26-28.

Five films based on works by Russian writers will be screened at the festival to be held at the Russian Cultural Centre.

The films to be screened are The Travel Beyond the Three Seas (based on the autobiography of Afanasy Nikitin), The Captain’s Daughter (based Alexander S Pushkin’s work), About Love (based of Anton Chekhov’s work), The Dog’s Heart (based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s work), and They Fought for the Motherland (based on by Mikhail Sholokhov’s work).

The film festival is one in a series of planned programmes. The objective of the film festival is to give the Nepali audience the flavour of Russian language and literature.

Passes for the festival will be available at the Centre from February 26.
