Girl power

Both the Dhakal sisters are in the media, but Pallavi and Manavi have totally different personalities, which makes them stand out in their own unique ways.

They say that they are regular sisters — they have fights like any other sister duo or trio, and like any elder sister, Pallavi is very protective about Manavi.

“I am always very concerned about her, and I often keep calling her when she is out late,” says Pallavi.

And Manavi’s reaction is predictable, “I often get very annoyed when she keeps telling to be careful and not to stay out too late.”

But they do share the camaraderie of sisterhood as Manavi says she finds her sister very easy to talk to. She even shares her secrets with Pallavi, who describes her younger sibling as “short tempered” but “very helpful”.

The two of them have three other sisters too, but Manavi says that it is Pallavi who is the one to fix the bulb when it has fused, to change the cooking gas cylinders et cetera.

Their fights are usually about the household chores they are supposed to do, according to Pallavi, while Manavi says that their fights are usually over stuff like clothes. But despite everything the sisters know each other’s strengths which they admire but hardly tell the other. Manavi talks about her sister’s ability to make people laugh, while Pallavi says, “She makes friends very easily. She is more of an extrovert, while I am reserved. At times, I wish I could be open to people like she is.”

Don’t they wish they had a brother or brothers?

Only at times, shares both — when they have to deal with eve teasing. Then they both wish they had a brother who would deal with those guys, maybe even bash them up. But they are happy to be in a house full of girls. — Krita Raut
