Hingmang honoured in New Delhi
KATHMANDU: Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi has honoured Nepali artist Aruna Hingmang with Dr Ambedarkar Kalashree National Award 2015. The Akademi awarded Hingmang in an event organised at Panchshil Ashram, New Delhi, India on December 12, as per a press release issued by the artist.
Hingmang has become the first Nepali artist to be feted with this award, as per the press statement. Every year the Akademi honours personalities from SAARC countries working for society in the field of art, literature, and social work. And Hingmang was honoured for her contribution in the art sector.
“I feel lucky to receive such a prestigious award. Being an artist I was able to make Nepal and Nepali painting world proud. I feel encouraged to walk in the path of my art journey and feel responsible to be creative even more,” the press statement quoted the artist as saying.
Hingmang is primarily known for her installation art and paintings. Her paintings are focused on the theme of women, women’s freedom, sex, love, freedom from discrimination due to caste and more.
To date she has done four solo painting exhibitions and has visited Malaysia, Singapore, and Afghanistan for group exhibitions. Currently, she is working for her upcoming painting exhibition based on the poems of SP Koirala.
