JUKE BOX : Nalina Chitrakar’s balancing act

KATHMANDU: Among female singers striking gold in the Nepali music industry, one of the foremost names today is Nalina Chitrakar. But she does not always feel comfortable with the fame and attention she is earning. “I am a bit afraid that my audiences might get bored of hearing me again and again. Sometimes change is a necessity. For sure I will be happy when there is someone with whom I can have a healthy competition. If there is no one then I guess we miss the chance of growing and improving.”

Two weeks back she had a concert in Pokhara and Jhapa and today, on March 27, she will be attending two concerts in Kathmandu. She is busy. So does her professional life hamper her personal one? She chuckles, “Not exactly. Whenever possible I give time to my family. Sometimes I do feel that I am not giving enough time to them and I feel bad. Then if possible, if the work is not so important, I try to cancel it.” She adds, “My husband Sanjeev and I try to manage our time so that we can spend time with each other and I am happy that he understands my profession.”Any good news so far? “Nope. If you are hinting at a baby then not so early!” Nowadays she is busy preparing for her fifth album. “I don’t know what I will name the album but I can say that it will be something different from my previous albums.

I think it will be released after five or six months.” — Dipti Sherchan
