Kids’ take on nature

KATHMANDU: The winners of the 37th World Earth Day art competition organised by the American Embassy were announced amidst a function at the residence of the American ambassador on April 24. The competition held during March had three categories according to age. A total of 57 paintings by students from schools all over Nepal had been submitted.

Speaking at the function, Ambassador James F Moriarty said, “The paintings submitted showed that the children in Nepal are more aware that we need to protect and conserve our natural resources.”

The winner of the first category, age group 10-11years, Kailash Raj Pandey from Little Angels’ School said that his theme for the painting was “nature should be in perfect harmony”. The winner of the second category, age group 12-13 years, Buddha Lama from Unique Boarding School, had presented a creative concept involving what we should do and what we should not do to preserve nature. While the winner of the third category, age group 14-15 years, Nimesh Oli from Lalitpur Secondary School, had shown the deteriorating condition of nature today and how it should be.

The winners were each given certificate by ambassador Moriarty.
