Kutumba shines at Jazz Bazaar

Kathmandu:

The festival is riding on the crest. But as always before, Gokarna Jazz Bazaar materialises into the finest of all the Jazz experiences. It’s not only because of the motley group of musicians participating in the gigs but also the beautiful backdrop that Gokarna provides to the electrifying event.

The Jazz bazaar of the Surya Classic Jazzmandu kicked off at the stipulated time. And unlike other humdrum concerts, it’s always an enlightening experience to switch over from the east to the west.

This time the Bazaar featured three Nepali bands Sukarma, Kutumba and Stupa of which Kutumba represented the Nepali music best. And though almost every Nepali performer walked away with prolonged applauds, it was Kutumba that stunned the pack with a complete package of surprises.

The gigs in between included a blend of cultural folk, classical and jazz by the Nepali bands along with the international bands. But also stunning were the duo from Montreal, who were equally enthralling with what they themselves called “messy” machinations.

The other bands that were featured in the Jazz Bazaar were Latin Jazz All Stars, The Remi Abram Quartet, The Judy Lewis and Orr Didi, Andreas Hessen Schei and Hilde Marie Kjersem, Andy Grosskopf, Nick Aggs Afro Dizzi-Act and El David.
