Lennon’s schoolbook fetches $226,000
LONDON: A school exercise book in which future Beatle John Lennon drew a walrus as a 12-year-old fetched 126,500 pounds ($226,000) at an auction. The picture illustrates Lewis Carroll’s poem The Walrus and The Carpenter, which Lennon later cited as the inspiration for the band’s 1967 song I am the Walrus. The book, entitled My Anthology, features some of the late Beatle’s earliest thoughts drawings and poems on 10 illustrated pages, the news agency Press Association reported. An unidentified private collector from Britain outbid offers from the US at the auction in London. Lennon’s engraved silver christening bracelet sold for $48,000, PA reported.
