MNCs offer jobs on the spot

Kathmandu:

It’s once in a life time opportunity for Nepali youths as many of the world’s largest multinational companies (MNCs) like IBM, Convergys and WNS will take part and recruit Nepalis directly after interviewing ‘on-the-spot’ during the International Job Fair- 2008 on January 12-14.

Job seekers from all educational backgrounds — like lawyers, chartered accountants, pharmacists, MBA degree holders, Engineers from 10+2 pass candidates — can apply for jobs at this event.

“However, the minimum criterion are that all the job seekers should be able to speak English and have at least 10+2 passed,” said Sujit Acharya, CEO of New Horizons and honorary IT representative of Nepal to India.

Some companies are looking for graduates also. Most of them would be looking for candidates who are going to complete their Bachelor’s degree in any field like arts, engineering, law, management and IT or have already earned their Bachelors degree in any of these faculties.

“The companies do not ask for any job experience as they will train the selected candidates according to their need and requirement,” he said adding that the companies are mostly looking for recent graduates. “If selected, they would be rigorously trained by the company in its internal work process that will enable such selected students to begin to working effectively in that particular company,” he added. But the job seekers, who have previous experience, also can apply.

“The multinational companies follow ‘Equal Opportunity to all’ policy. So, Nepalis selected through this job fair will also be paid equal to other employees,” Acharya said, adding that MNCs do not discriminate on anyone based on citizenship, race, culture, gender and creed.

A job seeker can visit stalls of the participating companies and inquire about the kinds of jobs they are offering. If the job seeker is interested, they can present their CVs to their hiring representative, who may request the prospective job seeker for a further interview or simply choose to keep their CV on file at the stall. “Those interviewed by the hiring representative may further be put through tests or simply given an ‘on-the-spot’ job offer if the representative thinks the candidate’s profile fits their need,” he added.

The samples of interview questions of hiring representatives from various companies can be found at www.nhnepal.com/jobfair. A job seeker can also approach stalls of multiple companies and apply for multiple jobs. “Its a job fair where candidates have right to pick and choose what they prefer,” he explained.

As a lot of people are expected to visit this event to inquire for jobs — and as companies have a limited number of hiring representatives at their stalls; it is not humanly possible to spend ample time with each and every job seeker. Therefore, those that are not selected may still get called by various companies even after the event. But for this is to happen, it is very important for all job seekers to come to the job fair with many copies of their CV’s (a sample of the CV can is at www.nhnepal.com/jobfair) and drop this at every company’s stall. Hiring representatives will carry each candidates CV’s back with them after the event - and can review these CV’s carefully later on. Upon review, if they think they are suitable, such candidates will be contacted after the fair also. However, more than 1,000 job vacancies at some of the world’s largest companies are available at present.

This is a historic event with immense potential of having a very huge positive impact on solving the present unemployment problem. Its not just happens that the world’s best companies come to Nepal looking to people.
