Monsoon secrets

Alison McMeans

Kathmandu:

The Third Annual Wine Festival at Kilroy’s (on until September), a brainchild of Robert Desjardins, was started as a way to celebrate the monsoon season in the capital and help people unlock the secrets of wine. The varied selection comprises seven red wines, seven white wines, a rosé and a port. The genius of the wine festival is that it showcases a wide variety of wine at reasonable prices. These wines are not to be reserved for the wedding of your first son, but can celebrate anything from a birthday to beautiful weather.

The staff is very knowledgeable and are more than happy to make suggestions sure to enhance your meal. If you are lucky to arrive on a day that Prakash Panday is working, you are guaranteed to find a friendly guide to take you on your journey through wine country.

Of course, a sampling of wine is not complete without good food, and Kilroy’s offers a selection of English, Irish and French cuisine to compliment your wine. For a truly European experience, finish your meal with a strong French-style goat cheese.
