More aid needed for children with AIDS
Not enough money is being given to help kids with HIV and Aids, according to the charity Save The Children. Each day 1,800 children get HIV — and 1,400 die around the world. It’s thought that by 2010 about 25 million children will be orphans because of the virus.
December 1 marked the 19th World Aids Day. AIDS stands for the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and people with the condition die because they are unable to fight off illnesses as normal. Save The Children says the amount spent on treating the serious conditions is “pitiful”. The charity has estimated that about £820m is needed to help kids with the disease but only a quarter of that money has been found — and it’s not clear where the rest is coming from.
