Nepathya dedicates Swayambhu show to its drummer
KATHMANDU: Nepal's premier folk-rock band, Nepathya, performed at Swayambhu to honour its longtime local drummer Dhruba Lama, in style, on Saturday.
As soon as the band's lead guitarist Niraj Gurung started to play their signature favourite number Yo Zindagani, the audience erupted in joy even before Amrit Gurung appeared on stage in the vicinity of Swayambhu Nath stupa.
Band's legendary singer Amrit Gurung then entered the stage and joined the audience chorus, once Nepathya's local drummer Dhruba Lama rolled the drums at packed Bhuikhel Chaur in Kathmandu.
Nepathya enthralled the crowds with its evergreen hit numbers like Bhedako Oon, Chekyo Chekyo, Sirfula, Lampate Surati, Jomsome Bazaar, Rama Rama, Resham, Taal ko Pani and its new releases.
"This show is dedicated to our drummer Dhruba Lama, who has been with the band for 20 years and I thank Swayambhu for contributing to Nepathaya through him," legendary singer and social activist Amrit Gurung said.
In his signature style of communicating with the audience, Amrit shared his travel experience and appealed all to travel the country to embrace its beauty and rich culture.
However, he was saddened by the growing numbers of child abuses and disappearances of late in the country.
He also appealed for unity in diversity in these testing times and performed patriotic numbers like Hami Nepali, Gaun Gaun Utha and Rato Ra Chandra Surya before wrapping up the show.
"The social fabric of our nation has been disrupted in recent times. Swayambhu would enlighten our leaders and police administration to create violence-free society," Gurung said at the end of the show.
Gurung was accompanied by Dhruba Lama on drums, Suraj Thapa on keyboards, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on lead guitar and Shanti Rayamajhi on madal.
