KATHMANDU, AUGUST 5
Embarking on a musical journey to present a series of concerts in seven United States (US) cities, the renowned Nepali folk-rock band Nepathya commenced their tour with a grand performance in Boulder, Colorado.
In a statement, Nepathya said, the show began with video clips of the songs "Sa Karnali" and "Mai Mari Jaunla," followed by the opening performance of "Kosiko Pani Yo Jindagani." This transitioned seamlessly into "Bhenda Ko Oon Jasto" and "Chekyo Chekyo."
"From the very start, the synergy between the stage and the audience was palpable, driven by the excitement and enthusiasm on both sides," said Daniel Murphy, the operational manager of Boulder Theater.
"An extraordinary combination of management, technical setup, audience energy, and artist performance made this event exceptional and unforgettable," shared stage manager Dale Fanton.
Reflecting on the first show of their seven-city, 40-day tour, band member Amrit Gurung described the experience as heartfelt. "The fact that Boulder, in the mountainous state of Colorado, has declared itself a sister city to our own Kathmandu added a special warmth," Amrit noted. "I hope the agreement between the mayors of both cities to establish a Nepalese cultural center here will soon be realized."
Amrit expressed joy at seeing the vibrant presence of the Nepali community in Colorado, a state the band was visiting for the first time, reads the statement.
The concert featured Nepathya's timeless hits, ranging from their early song "Aaganai Bhari" to the recently recorded "Pachasai Barsha Ma Juga Kaha Pugyo Ni."
Throughout the event, Amrit shared his thoughts on the Nepali language and identity. He recounted how he collected many songs while trekking through villages and encouraged the audience to explore Nepal when they visit. Amrit then performed "Sirful," a song composed during his travels around Dhaulagiri, accompanied by photos from his journey to Rukum displayed on the backdrop.
As the concert neared its end, Amrit's performance of "Gaun Gaun Bata Utha" energized the audience, leading to increased excitement as they danced to "Resham," "Tal Ko Pani," and the final song "Rato Ra Chandra Surya."
Amrit was accompanied by Dhruva Lama on drums, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on guitar, Shanti Raimajhi on madal, and Dineshraj Regmi on keyboards.
Following this successful inaugural concert, Nepathya's next performance will be in the prosperous western coastal city of San Francisco on August 10 at the Warfield Theater, marking their return after an eight-year hiatus.
Subsequently, the band will perform in Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; New York; Maryland; and finally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
According to the statement, tickets for all concerts on the U.S. tour can be purchased online through the band's official website, www.nepathya.com.np, where additional information is available.
