Not a super Hero

Kathmandu

Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi) is a goonda but with a heart of gold, and tattoos. With an intense exercise regime and a physique to boost, he sure can fight well. On the other hand, Radha (Athiya Shetty) is an IG’s daughter. The leggy lass is confident and outspoken. And Hero is a mediocre tale of their love story.

Their everlasting love story starts in a disco. Sooraj, who has just beaten up some bad guys, lands in a disco with some of his friends to celebrate where he sees Radha, who has just broken up with her boyfriend. One thing leads to another, the two shake some legs along with other people in the house.

At the end of singing and dancing, Radha’s ex comes and tries to take Radha away. But Sooraj comes to her rescue. This leads to a fight, which Sooraj obviously wins. When they meet for the second time and over the next few weeks, they fall in love deeply under some odd circumstances. Radha loves Sooraj despite his background, but there is a conflict in their love story that they have to transcend.

Hero is indeed a typical Bollywood love story. The hero and heroine fall in love no matter what and their love wins after going through lengthy troubles. Director Nikhil Advani has treated this otherwise so-so film with melodrama.

He has sugar-coated the love story with humour and action, but nothing is outstanding and new.

When it comes to acting department, the debutants have done an okay job. It is evident Sooraj Pancholi has worked hard on his body, but he needs to work more on his acting. He looks serious all the time which is monotonous and boring to watch at times. But his partner is quite natural.

And they have been backed by some good supporting actors like Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vivan Bhatena and Sharad Kelkar whose acting have adding life to the film.

The big letdown of the film is the half-baked script, which concentrates on the love story. The characters don’t touch you except for what they do and what they are doing. And there are lapses of logic like when Sooraj is supposedly stabbed to death, but he rises like the Phoenix and fights with the antagonists.

No Bollywood love story is complete without songs and music. Hero is no exception and its music is good. The songs that keep popping to express happiness, love and sadness of the characters are likeable.
