Not too sugary
Gossips, scandals and tantrums of celebrities have always interested us. Ekta Kapoor’s much-awaited “gossip” show Kandy Floss had already being touted to be more of spice. The magazine-format show kicked off from March 10 on Sony Entertainment television. The show, which was supposed to be aired much earlier, was being delayed because of the content of the show.
Sandiip Sikcand, creative head, Balaji Telefilms explains, “Kandy Floss is all about the behind scenes goings-on and hot, unadulterated gossip related to the entertainment industry. In our show we have dealt with some issues like homosexuality in the fashion industry, to what extent will actors go to gain name and fame and will heroines go topless for a scene.”
None other than the versatile Archana Puran Singh is anchoring the show. “The reason we chose Archana to host it is because her personality goes with the profile of our show. She has always been candid about what she thinks and has always been known to do things differently,” says Sikcand. The actress has made a grand comeback to television with the show.
This is something different Ekta has come up with. “We’ve never really had a gossip-and-information show before. Also Balaji Telefilms hasn’t really done much non-fiction. Besides a regular female anchor, ‘Kandy Floss’ will have an animation creature called Kandy who’ll take viewers through the party-gossip-info circuit on television. It would be my tribute to Madame M, the fictional gossip writer whom I grew up reading in the magazine Cine Blitz,” says Ekta Kapoor.
Kandy is one of the most happening and rocking characters. She is saucy, sexy, bitchy, funny, sweet and warm. She is someone you may love or hate but you can’t ignore. Popular actor cum VJ Suchitra Pillai has lent her voice to Kandy. “It was Ekta Kapoor’s idea to use an animated character. We wanted to build mystery around Kandy. Another reason we used animation was for novelty value,” adds Sikcand.
