Peace thru art

Kathmandu:

What the country needs today is peace and based on it a dawn of a New Nepal. Some of our artists have tried to say this through a group painting exhibition entitled ‘... for peace and new Nepal’ at the Mithila Art Gallery, NAFA, Naxal. The exhibition comprises paintings by over 10 artists executed during a four-day Creative Camp for Peace and New Nepal organised by Aarohan, Gurukul in October last year at Nagarkot.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, Ambassador of India, on February 15 amid the presence of other guests like Abhi Subedi, and coordinator of the exhibition, artist Kiran Manandhar.

The artists have used diverse media, mainly acrylic on canvass, to express their concept. The paintings are mostly abstract and semi-abstract. From scenic beauty to deep philosophical insights, the paintings are different in their approach. Some of Vijay Thapa’s paintings also treat the onlookers with good use of soft as well as hard colours. Kiran Manandhar’s rich flow of soft hues gives a pleasant feeling in one of his paintings. Young female artists like Erina Tamrakar and Bidhata KC have also used softer hues and also dwelt on the concept of mother nature. Artists have also experimented, like Deependra Bajracharya, who has used digital print medium and displayed various gestures by male and female models. Some of the paintings are mature works and are deliver their message very well.

The other participating artists include Nareshsunder Sainju, Uttam Kharel, Samjhana Rajbhandari, Bhairaj Maharjan, Shanta Kumar Rai, Sunjul K Ramjit, Gyanendra Bibas, Ashit Kumar Mitra, and Ramesh Khanal.

The exhibition is on till February 24
