Peebles enchants bankers, expats

Kathmandu: British pianist and globetrotter Antony Peebles enchanted guests, friends and musiclovers with his hour-long recital comprising music by masters like Chopin, Mendelssohn and Rachmanioff at Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu on Tuesday night.

On his very first visit to Nepal, Peebles appeared impressed by his musical ambience, when he said: “The audience response is very good. It’s definitely more encouraging than that in New York or California.” After stealing the show and his audience’s hearts with his extraordinary music, Peebles was at his humorous best when he rattled off a parody of “The March of the US Marines” that did not preclude an opinion on the present-day global political scenario.

The programme was organised by the Nepal Britain Society and supported by Nepal Investment Bank, Himalayan Bank, ECS Magazine, Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, Gorkha Brewery and other leading banking institutions. Present on the occasion were dignitaries including British Ambassador to Nepal Mr Keith Bloomfield, Deputy Chief of the Mission David Ward and president of Nepal Britain Society Mrs Pratima Pandé. — HNS
