PEOPLESPEAK: Thank you mum, sister, wife, granny, teacher...
I want to salute my sweeper. She’s done a lot for everybody keeping the waste at bay and giving us a healthy, dirt-free path to walk on everyday and indirectly keeping us disease free. How can I ever forget the glorious heartfelt smile she gives everyday along with the cleanliness.
— Samanta Sharma
I would like to thank my spouse for her understanding. Considering my family background and my social status, I had never imagined that she would accept my love and agree to tie the knot. I cannot be me more thankful to anybody else.
— Babu Tamu
If I could thank one woman in my life, it would be my former teacher Kabita Pun. She would give me suggestion whenever I was in a trouble and was always kind enough to extend her support in times of need. With her encouragement and support I got good grades in my exams. Without her support I would not have come this far. I would like to express my thanks to her from the bottom of my heart.
— Kes Bahadur Pun ‘Simpani’
If I were to thank any woman in my life, the loads of gratefulness and thanks would undoubtedly go to the loveliest woman for me on earth — my mum. She is the one who has always been by my side. She has nurtured me and taught me to live in the true sense of living. She has always been my source of inspiration and showered me with her love and affection.

I would like to thank my beloved Didi Aruna. Though my mum would figure first on our list of preference, for me my sister is everything. I’d like to thank her for the role she has played in my life and making me a good person.

I want to thank my mother who motivates and supports me to solve difficulties in every step of my life. I get motivated by the way she encourages me saying, “My child, you can, do it.”

Even great men have failed to understand a woman’s nature. But we cannot deny the fact that every person needs a woman in his/her life. Whether it be in the form of a mother, sister wife or a friend. I want to thank my lovely elder sister for supporting me morally in each and every step of my life. I will thank her for her guidance without which I would not have been able to develop my present personality.
— Renuka Gurung
Speaking about one woman in my life who I would really like to thank is my Aama (my granny). I would like to thank her for all her support, for being my guide and encouraging and helping me in times of need. I’m very thankful to her for being my inspiration, support and my strength.
— Aneesha Bhattarai
There are quite a few women in my life who’ve left an indelible mark in my life, but I’d especially like to thank my dear old granny. She is the most loving, caring, and understanding person I’ve ever met. Having spent my early years in my maternal home, I’ve always been close to her. She’s the reason that I still believe in unconditional love. So I salute you and would like you to know just how much you mean to me.
— Dikshya Sharma, Ekantakuna
Though there are many women who are equally important to me, one lady who is really responsible for who I am today is my English teacher. She had been the real fountain of motivation, truth and knowledge to infuse self-confidence in me. She has gone abroad and I did not get a chance to express my gratitude. I cannot pay back for what she has done, so I would like to thank her from the core of my heart.
— Nishant Shandilya, Baluatar
If I could, I would thank Oprah Winfrey because she has been a great influence in my life through her programmes and campaigns. She depicts the power of a woman to encourage the whole world to make it a better place. Her compassion for poor children is very touching and I am very inspired by her aspirations. Also, I want thank myself and celebrate womanhood.
— Sumnima Khatri
The one and only woman that I want to thank would be my mum. A mother understands her child like no other person. Sometimes I do quarrel with my mum for small, stupid things. But afterwards I realise my mistake and apologise to her. She is my mentor who helps and gives me advice whenever I am in need.
— Tsering Dikita
I want to thank an energetic, humble, compassionate and a dearest friend of mine — Audrey
Kaufman, who is a nurse by profession and lives in Ireland. On her visits to Nepal, she along with some of her friends back home, did fantastic deeds of humanity and for the welfare of women. She took around 50 children of an orphanage to restaurants, parks, zoo and shopping, which was something unusual to the children living in orphanages. On her second visit, she again took a group of children for outing, they were not only happy to see her again but some of them started calling her Mother. Being a Nepali, I never had such an experience of genuine compassion.
— Sabin Thapa, Galfutar
Today, tomorrow and always, the most important woman in my life will be my sister Junu Pradhan. I would like to thank her for her genuine love that has made me what I am today. I thank her for never losing hope in me and always being there for me. I salute her for helping me become an independent girl. I’ll never let her down.
— Jenu Pradhan, US
