Philadelphia road to be renamed for late newsman Ed Bradley
PHILADELPHIA: A stretch of road in Philadelphia is being renamed for late "60 Minutes" correspondent Ed Bradley, who began his broadcasting career in the city.
A spokeswoman for KYW-TV says a portion of City Avenue between Monument Road and Presidential Boulevard is to be dedicated as Ed Bradley Way during a Saturday ceremony.
Bradley grew up in a tough section of Philadelphia, where he once recalled that his parents worked 20-hour days at two jobs apiece.
After graduating from Cheyney State College (now Cheyney University), he launched his career as a DJ and news reporter for a Philadelphia radio station in 1963.
Bradley's skills as a broadcast journalist were recognised with numerous awards, including 19 Emmys.
He died in 2006.
His widow, Patricia Blanchet, will be on hand for the dedication.
