RAUTAHAT, APRIL 30

Authorities have begun demolishing nearly 400 illegally built huts and properties along the Bagmati Irrigation Canal in Chandrapur Municipality-5 and -6, ending a 28-year-long encroachment.

Project Chief Santosh Chaudhary stated that forced eviction became necessary after the squatters refused to vacate despite multiple public notices. "The campaign to clear these structures and prevent future encroachment is now underway," he said. The operation is being carried out with the support of the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and local officials.

Mayor Sanjay Kumar Kafle and Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal are expected to oversee the clearance. Local MP Ganesh Paudel defended the move, stating, "The government took this decision for the management of this national pride project and to expand irrigation facilities."
