PICK OF THE WEEK: World’s tiniest baby finally goes home
The world’s smallest surviving baby is finally being allowed to go home from hospital in America. Amillia Taylor was only as long as a pen when she was born and weigh-ed just 284 gra-ms, which is about the same as a big bar of chocolate. She was born after 21 weeks, instead of the usual 40. Because she was so tiny, doctors didn’t expect her to live. But after four months in hospital she’s went home on Tuesday. As Amillia still weighs less than 2 kg, she will need special care at home for the next few months. The University of Iowa, which keeps track of babies born early across the world, says she is the smallest baby on record to survive.
