Queen among kids

If we ask you what was special about August 26, you might probably say it was Teej. Well, you might be correct, but the Kid Queen Nepal 2006, a talent contest for girls aged between nine to 12 at Nepal Academy Hall was no less special.
It was a worth an afternoon watching girls walk on stage trying to ape professionals like in other beauty pageants, however at the same time betraying their innocence trying to trace their parents, teachers or friends among the audience. Rather the contestants, the parents were more enthusiastic to capture the moments of their daughter on stage in their still and video cameras.
Parisha Rajbhandari was crowned the Kid Queen Nepal 2006, while Manisha KC and Chhiring Dolma Sherpa were declared the first and second runners-up respectively.
From the introduction round to Best Dress, the girls tried to give their best for the top scores. Most of them wanted to become ‘a successful doctor’ when they grow up, while social worker, fashion designer, dancer, business woman, advocate, pilot and airhostess were also in the list. There was one contestants who harboured the dream of becoming Miss Nepal.
The contest was organised by the Nepalese Fashion Home with an aim to develop confidence and nurture talent from a very young age. Forty-seven girls had participated in the contest.
