Rai wins BBC Nepali service’s talent hunt

Kathmandu:

Radha Rai the winner of BBC Nepali service musical talent hunt was awarded a special trophy and certificate by one of the judges, Nhyoo Bajracharya amidst a function on December 21.

According to Suman Kharel, Desk Editor of BBC Nepali, the talent hunt was initiated

after receiving more than 100 Nepali entries in the BBC World Service’s global musical talent hunt — The next big thing 2007, which was a part of the celebration of BBC Service’s 75th anniversary. Kharel said, “We decided to encourage new talents and bring them to light so that they can contribute towards the development of Nepali music.”

The judges of the talent hunt were Nhyoo Bajracharaya, Kunti Moktan and Deep Shrestha. Speaking at the function Bajracharya said, “BBC Nepali service has given a very

good platform for new artists. However these artists have to continuously work towards enhancing their talents otherwise this success of theirs will be just for today.”

Rai who was brimming with joy thanked lyricist Bhupal Rai and composer Doctor Kirat of her song, “It is their creation, I just gave my voice to it. I am so grateful to them that I just don’t know how can I thank them.” Rai also sang her winning song, live on BBC Nepali on Friday evening.
