Reinventing saree
The house of Satya Paul has changed the way women look at the six yards of cloth that is called saree. And following in his father’s footsteps, Puneet Nanda is all too ready to make sure that they keep the charm of sarees alive with every new season.
Creating one’s own identity
“Everyone is unique. If you do something true to your own nature, then the creation will hold your identity,” says Nanda.
Satya Paul has been successful in creating a market not only in Asia, but also in the western fashion hubs. Nanda believes in giving a personal touch to all the creations making it distinctive from others.
Continuing the legacy
Having worked with his father Nanda says, “I know the DNA of our brand. Like in the musical gharanas where you learn and maintain the style but improvise the music according to your individual style — the similar way designing of Satya Paul has its signature style, but each individual adds something extra.”
Indian fashion weeks
He thinks the Indian fashion weeks are great trade fairs and an absolutely great way to showcase different talents. “It is a forum where various designers present their products and is a great way to celebrate Indian fashion,” says Nanda.
About Nepal
“Nepal has a certain innocence and charm. I can feel a high Buddhist influence here and it is very close and in tune with nature. I am very keen to discover more about it,” he says.
All about colours
According to Nanda, the brand Satya Paul believes in experimenting with its own style. This year they will be focusing more on off-beat colours like deeper red, green, chocolate brown among others.
His kinda weekend
Whenever I get free during a weekend, I spend it in art and meditation. I am also trained in Indian classical music under the Dhrupad gharana. I have learned Dagarvani. I like listening to music as well.
I also like photography and am a trained photographer. I like clicking pictures as well. Being a vegetarian I don’t eat out much and relish mostly homecooked meals.
Watching a movie is something I enjoy a lot. Recently I watched Bourne Ultimatum. I have been watching the Bourne series and I liked the last part of the trilogy a lot.
