Romance and more with Punjabi MC
Kathmandu: One couldn’t have wished for a better Valentine’s Day bash than with Punjabi MC (PMC) at the Rox Bar. Almost 15 years in the music industry has made his bond with music stronger. There’s been no looking back for him since the day he made a foray into the music industry in 1993 and became popular for his penchant for interlacing traditional bhangra with hip-hop samples and rap.
He began by writing lyrics and rapping at uni gigs. This was when people around him started calling him the Indian MC. PMC took inspiration from people like James Brown, KRS1, Dr Dre and Bob Marley, which were his influences from the Western world and from his own cultural background he was influenced by Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda and Chamkila who are some of Indians greatest legends. Speaking to this daily, MC said, “It’s the first time I’m going to perform in Nepal and its special for me as I was born on this day. I’ll basically be playing some of my romantic numbers including bhangra, hip-hop and rap.
Shital P Singh, CEO, Mirage Entertainment, organiser of the event said, “PMC is the best astiste we have ever invited to perform here in Nepal and we hope the event will be a smashing hit.”
