SCHOOL TIMES : Precious eyes
There was a boy named Punte. He was so mischievous that whenever he saw a packet or a polythene bag filled with something, he ran to squeeze it.
One day when his mother came home from market, he saw her carrying a polythene bag. He immediately squeezed the bag. His mother tried to stop him but couldn’t.
Then his eyes start to itch and he started to cry.
His mother told him there was some chilli powder in the bag. However, Punte cried so bitterly that all neighbours gathered outside their house. His mother was embarrassed to see her son crying in front of all the neighbours so she went towards the kitchen. Punte’s grandmother saw everything and his mother told her everything.
The Grandmother put him in her lap and said, “Don’t cry, Punte. It’s your fault. You see you got what you deserved.”
But every one who had gathered was saying, “God save his eyes.” After washing his eyes with water, Punte was again happy and well.
After hearing about Punte, I’ve come to realise people’s good intentions and that God does look after us. — Navalok Sharma, Brihaspati Vidya Sadan
