Similarities underscored

Lauren Moriarty, wife of the ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal inaugurated an exhibition of paintings titled ‘Aloha-Namaste Sacred Places, sacred Animals’ by Wicki Van De Veer and ‘Woman in Nature’ by Erina Tamrakar at the Siddhartha Art Gallery on September 24.

Before inaugurating the exhibition, Moriarty said, “At first glance, Nepal and Hawaii may seem to have little or nothing in common. Yet, when I, a Hawaiian arrived in Nepal, I felt an immediate, spiritual connection with the beautiful country of Nepal and its gentle people. Hawaiians see an intimate and inseparable link between man and nature. Wicki Van De Veer and Erina Tamrakar have captured on canvas a sense of that sacred connection among man, nature and the spirit.” However, on close scrutiny, while Erina’s paintings are an expression of a sensual and earthy woman who looks at nature for inspiration, Wicki, who is a Hawaiian, uses a representational style to reflect the beauties of nature.

The paintings at the exhibit are rendered in oil, acrylic, watercolour and giclee print on canvas. The exhibition is on till October 20.
