Singing for passion

KATHMANDU: ‘Kaslai Bhanu’, a music album penned by Janardhan Subedi, PhD, a social scientist and principal was launched by Vijay Dugar at a programme organised at Durbar Hotel, Durbar Marg on March 3. Subedi, who loves music, has written down the words of the song inspired by all the experiences he has come across in life.

“I wrote these in transit in various airports at Chicago, Tokyo and Kathmandu,” shared Subedi, who is based in the US. “You have plenty of time while waiting and you are all alone. All this helps you concentrate. At work or at home, it is difficult to concentrate. I have written some songs on the plane.”

One of the songs titled “Nirmaya” is borne of an incident that left a deep impact on Subedi’s life. Nirmaya lived in Jeeri. She died in labour because the hospital had been shut and there was no one to give medical attention. Subedi met the woman after she died and heard her story. To him, she stood for all that he saw Nepal as — struggling to give birth and dying in the process because nobody cares. “We need to make a difference, all this violence and lack of concern will only kill Nepal,” opined Subedi. He began Nirmaya Foundation and even donated an ambulance in her name.

The songs in this album are composed by Deepak Jhangam and Sachin Singh. Deepak Kharel, Ram Krishna Dhakal, Satyaraj Acharya, Sapana Shree, Sworup Raj Acharya, Lochan Bhattarai and Shailesh Singh have lent their voices to the album.

Subedi already has another album in the making and he also hopes to make a movie
