Slotting your skin type
Last week I had given you some tips on skin care, today I would like to talk about the different types of skins. Our skin is one of the largest organs of our body, so we need to take extra special care of it. Every individual has a unique skin which can be generally characterised into four types:
Normal: Normal skin feels comfortable and requires the least attention. People with this skin type have a proper balance of moisture and oil production, which results to a smooth and healthy skin with minimum of breakouts. Cleansing with a mild face wash and using a light moisturiser will be enough for this low maintenance skin types.
Dry: There are two types of dry skins — the oil dry and the moisture dry. The oil dry is sensitive and has flaky patches with no visible pores. It tends to age and wrinkle fast if not looked after carefully. The moisture dry skin’s appearance has a fine texture, which gets taunt and dry with a tendency to chap easily even at an early age with tiny lines around the eyes and mouth. You must use a moisturiser often, underneath makeup and before going to bed.
Oily: This type of skin has a shiny appearance with large visible pores which are prone to blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and acne. Cleansing is very important to keep the pores unclogged. The good thing about this skin type is that it ages more gracefully and doesn’t wrinkle as easily as dry skin.
Combination: This type of skin is partly dry and partly oily. The central part of the face like the forehead, nose, chin and parts of the cheeks, which is also known as the T- zone, looks glossy and oily while the other parts look dry. Use oil-free moisturiser only where you need it.
