- Committee warns of action against those failing to clear encroached land - Landowners asked to submit ownership documents within seven days - Around 205 ropanis had been acquired for bus park project decades ago
KATHMANDU, MAY 24
The Pokhara Valley Municipal Development Committee has issued a public notice directing the removal of illegal structures, including shops, from the Pokhara Bus Park area within 15 days.
The committee urged business operators and other concerned parties to cooperate in clearing encroachments to facilitate construction of the proposed modern Pokhara Bus Park.
According to the notice issued on Saturday, encroachments along the Seti River corridor, extending from Pokhara House to Seti Bridge and from the Prithvi Highway towards the south, as well as areas north and east of the airport, must be removed immediately.
The committee warned that if the structures are not dismantled within the stipulated period, it would remove them and recover the associated costs from the individuals and organizations concerned.
Landowners in the area have also been asked to appear at the committee office within seven days with citizenship certificates, land ownership documents, land revenue receipts and other relevant papers.
Earlier, Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 9 had issued a 35-day notice on April 17 seeking removal of structures built on land encroaching upon the bus park area near Prithvi Chowk. Following the expiry of that notice, the committee issued another warning.
The land designated for the bus park, owned by the committee, is currently occupied by squatters, landless families and Dalit communities. Around 205 ropanis of land had been acquired in 2031/32 BS for construction of the bus park, but the project was never implemented.
Officials said extensive encroachment has reduced the available public land to around 60 ropanis. The metropolitan city now plans to proceed with construction of the modern bus park after clearing the encroached area.
