Summer school scholarships

The British Council, Nepal organised a ‘Meet the Press,’ programme with Summer School 2005 participants on July 29 at British Embassy. At the programme, the students shared
their experiences with the Press so that more people would know about the programme they participated in that involved enhancing their understanding of global citizenship and building their leadership qualities. A total of 150 young people aged 17 to 25 from 15 countries had participated on the programme among which six were Nepali students who were sponsored by the British Council, Nepal to participate in the international Summer School 2005 at Mahendra College, Pune. They took part in a full range of programmes that consisted of fundraising, advocacy, communication-theatre, film making, photography, puppetry and theme workshop and discussions on human rights, peace and conflict resolution, globalisation and livelihood, gender equity, HIV/AIDS and sexuality, environment and sustainable development. NGO Prabha-India had brought this special International Summer School 2005 programme that brought together young people from various parts of the world, all of whom were interested in helping create a better world. These students won their Summer School scholarships in a competition organised by the British Council office in Kathmandu on the merit of a project they submitted that included creativity and leadership skills.
