THE WORLD THIS WEEK: Discovery about shoes

Scientists found out that people were wearing shoes as far back as 40,000 years ago. They made the discovery when they were examining the toe bones of a 40,000-year-old skeleton, which was found in a cave in China. They could tell people wore shoes back then because wearing shoes changes the way a person walks. This means the shape of someone’s toes who does wear shoes are different to the toes of someone who walks barefoot.
